Vibrant Colorado Fall Color!
Trip Details & Logistics
Mid September to early October offers the perfect opportunity to enjoy a very special and seasonal window to the rich fall color tapestry carpeting the Ironton and Red Mountain corridor.
Depart from Ouray, Colorado. Travel up the ‘Million Dollar’ Highway over Bear Creek Falls and enjoy the breathtaking green, red and gold aspens clinging to the steep canyon walls. Pass the sparkling Crystal Lake and then exit onto a little-known 4×4 trail that winds through a trellis of thick Aspen foliage, ferns and other Rocky Mountain flora. The trail continues through the well-preserved ghost towns of the Saratoga and Brooklyn mining camps, of which relics from the past are nestled in pockets of ferns and fall asters. Then, we continue to climb until we rise above tree-line to a plateau just below the summit of Brown Mountain for stunning color-filled views of Gray Copper Falls, Ironton and Half-Moon Basin.
Highlights:
- Canopies of Aspen
- Preserved Ghost Town
- Quiet Nature
- Mountain Pond
“Fall is our favorite time in Ouray and the highlight continues to be our trips into the mountains to see the Aspens turn color”
